Ash Leaved Maple

(Boxelder, Manitoba Maple)

Acer Negundo

A cold hardy, fast growing shade tree native to central Canada and the only maple to have compound leaves like an Ash tree. Occasionally planted in New Brunswick and suitable for wetter soil conditions. Seeds provide valuable food for local wildlife. It is said to have invasive tendencies as it produces abundant seed crops. Perhaps best planted on an open lawn where seedlings can be mowed. Trees have male and female flowers on separate trees so only female trees will produce seed.
