Dawn Redwood

Metasequoia Glyptostroboides

Native to China and thought to be extinct until its discovery in 1941. It has since been widely planted in parks and cities across the globe. Closely related to the giant sequoias of California but does not grow as tall. The tree is deciduous despite having needles instead of broad-leaves. An impressive large, pyramidal tree with a heavily buttressed trunk and reddish-brown bark. Male and female flowers occur on the same tree.
