A highly ornamental, small native of Korea and China. Unusual air-filled papery fruits that resemble Chinese lanterns changing from green to yellow in fall before turning brown and persisting through winter. A profusion of long clusters of small yellow flowers appear in summer lasting a few weeks and attracting many bees. A tough urban tree but will require mulching in areas with colder winters.
