Paperbark Maple
Acer Griseum
A native, ornamental of central China that is occasionally planted in New Brunswick. It is a unique, small tree with reddish-brown, wafer-thin, peeling bark that adds beauty and character to any small garden landscape. This is notable, particularly in winter, when the bark contrasts with the snow. Attractive bluish-green leaves emerge late in spring often turning a bronze colour in fall. All maples are ‘bleeders’ so prune in fall or late winter.
