Northern Catalpa
(Cigar Tree)
Catalpa Speciosa
Native to mid-western USA, this ornamental tree produces beautiful erect clusters of white flowers followed by long thin seed pods. Huge heart-shaped leaves emerge in June that are up to 12 inches long and 8 inches wide. Occasionally planted in New Brunswick as an ornamental but is one of the last trees to leaf-out in mid June. Male and female flowers are on the same tree but seed viability may improve from cross pollination if two or more trees are planted.
